2. How to Update Bank Information

a. Online via my Social Security

• Log in at ssa.gov/myaccount
• Click “Direct Deposit” under your Profile
• Enter your new routing number, account number, and account type (checking or savings)
• Save your changes; the update usually takes effect within one or two payment cycles

b. Visit Your Local SSA Office

• Use ssa.gov/locator to find your nearest office
• Bring a valid photo ID and a voided check or bank statement showing your new account details
• An SSA representative will enter the new bank information for you

3. What You’ll Need

Be prepared with:

• Your Social Security number or claim number
• Your new bank’s routing and account numbers
